Mercedes-Benz Holds Luxury Car Segment Leadership For 8th Consecutive Year

Sales figures for 2008 give Mercedes-Benz a luxury car market share of 52.7 percent with unit sales of 3,807 vehicles.

Carlsson who are approved as an automobile manufacturer by the Federal German Motor Transport Authority, for the first time presents an own developed automobile at this year’s Geneva Motor Show – the Carlsson C25. The concept of this Super-GT is based on the vision of combining maximum driving performance with an entirely new design and high exclusiveness. The result is a breathtaking and beautiful sports coupé with 753 hp in a limited edition of only 25 cars world-wide.With 753 hp and 1150 Newton metres in 3.7 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h and achieves a maximum speed of 352 km/h.

When developing the Carlsson C25, the engineers from Gut Wiesenhof have achieved creating a Super-GT for smooth everyday use despite its very high performance. “There are more than enough super sports car in this world which can only be safely driven on a race track”, says Markus Schuster. “Therefore, we deliberately wanted to develop a car which is highly exclusive on the one hand and can be used for the daily journey to office on the other hand. Therefore, a Super-GT which can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in only 3.7 seconds and still offers a very pleasant driving comfort. Different than other automobiles from small series, the Carlsson C25 has not been solely made for its use at the racetrack. Nevertheless, the C25 achieves top results in acceleration and handling. MERCEDES-BENZ S500

A new performance package has been released by the German-based tuning firm Inden-Design for the Mercedes-Benz S500 4MATIC. In the standard S 500 4MATIC, the 5.5-litre V8 engine produces an output of 388 HP accelerating the all-wheel-drive luxury sedan from 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) in 5.4 seconds.

Thanks to Inden Design’s work, the reprogrammed engine control unit has managed to add more 27 HP to the 5.5 V8 raising its total output to 415 HP.
On the tuning program for the S500 there is also a suspension that lowers the car by 45mm and a sport exhaust system with four tail pipes. The wheels are the classic BBS Le MAns in 20-inch with 245/35 R20 tires in front and 285/30R20 at the rear.
After they reprogammed the car’s control unit, Inden Design got 27 additional horse power and now the engine has 415 HP. More than that, the german tuner offers a lower suspension system that lowers the car with 45mm, a high performance exhuast system and 20″ BBS rims that are equipped with wide sport tires.

ITS SMALL IN SIZE NOT PRICE -- HONDA JAZZ

First Look:

It looks a contemporary small car with its razor sharp edges, defining modernity in every aspect. It presents a pleasing look with its aerodynamic styling. It’s got a unique forward-leaning cabin. The headlights enhance its sharp look. The windscreen is pretty large. The side look is not as attractive as the front and the rear and its difficult to come to terms with it. The tail lamp is knife sharp and the clustering of the lights enhances its looks.

Insight:
The dashboard is styled in the similar fashion as Civic. The steering wheel is a three spoke wheel. It sports a pretty stylish audio controls and CD player. The AC vent and the CD players are quite easy to access. The knobs provide extra smart look to the dashboard providing it with a high tech look. The leg room in the commanding seat as well as the rear seat is more than enough.
The seats are quite comfortable.

It has some innovative attachments such as two cup holders on the extreme edges of the dashboard, one for each driver and co driver. The box under the driver seat can be accessed from the rear seat and can hold documents.
The cargo space at the rear part is simply superb. It has around 384 cc with the rear seats up. This can be extended further from 563 cc to 884cc by folding the rear and co driver seat.
The ride is a bit shaky and the noise of the engine can be felt inside.

Honda, which has tasted success in almost every segment of automobile industry in India in which it is present, is ready to play the gamble with its new launch Honda Jazz. It has to compete with the giants like Maruti, Hundai and Tata. But the best thing is that there is nothing to loose for them.

HUMMER-- THE LUXURY TRUCKS

Raser Technologies of Utah wants to use technology similar to that in the Chevy Volt to make the Hummer a 100 MPG fuel sipper. Details are unclear, as Raser plans to debut the prototype on April 20–23 at the Society of Automotive Engineers World Congress in Detroit. But Raser is saying that using their E-REV (Extended-Range Electric Vehicle) powertrain technology, the Hummer plug-in hybrid will run up to 40 miles per day on its battery alone, then a small 4 cylinder combustion engine will kick in to generate more electricity.

The H3 is the smallest of the Hummer models and is based on the GMT355 platform shared with the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon compact pickup trip.

While drivers will feel the '08 H2's improved performance on the road, they'll appreciate it more while experiencing it in the all-new interior. It features a completely redesigned instrument panel, new seats - including a full third-row seat for two passengers- new door trim panels, new controls, new rear-seat heating/air conditioning system, new rear-seat overhead DVD entertainment system and a new family of premium radios.

Seats in the H2 have a new, chiseled appearance and offer improved comfort. In fact, HUMMER engineers focused on every detail to improve interior comfort. For example, the front seat safety belts are now mounted to the vehicle's B-pillars rather than to the seats themselves. This change enabled engineers uncompromised comfort tuning for the seats. Front seat safety belt pretensioners are new, too, and are standard.

The TOYOTA INNOVA exterior changes include new front grille, clear lens headlamps, new fog lamps and new front bumper. The rear remains almost constant.

The face-lifted Toyota will be revised too with climate control air conditioning for the higher spec variants, steering mounted audio control, new front skirt and in-dash CD changer. The mechanicals and the engine remain constant.
The facelift version would come with a slight premium on the price front. The car is used for large families owning to its combination of reliability, quality and refined car like drive.
Toyota also plans to bring the alternative fuel for Innova model which would compete the recently launch Mahindra Xylo. The company which announced last year of bringing its CNG version of Toyota Innova to the Indian market which will cost approximately Rs.75000 to 90000 more. The company also added that the CNG kits which are added to the new Innova has to be approved by Toyota Motor Corp., Japan, and there was a difference in the installation procedure, the CNG kits for the Toyota CNG Innova are more expensive.
“The CNG Innova should be launched commercially some time in January end. At present, we are conducting test trials of the model,” said Sandeep Singh, Toyota Kirloskar’s Deputy Managing Director. Toyota will tie up with Minda Industries for its CNG kits for CNG variant of Toyota Innova.
                Its the most seen car on Mumbai  roads. It is best suited for long drives with the family. It supports you on your tough drives, hence most commonly used for drives in hill stations.

HONDA CR-V

The small crossover SUV, Honda CR-V, is produced by Japanese automobile giant, Honda. First CR-V model hit the market in the model year 1996. It shares its most of the components and design cues from Honda Civic. The letters CRV in the brand name refers to “Comfortable Runabout Vehicle”. It is offered in either front wheel drive or in all wheel drive. In Australia and United Kingdom, it is offered in all wheel drive systemFirst Generation (1996-2001)


The first generation
 Honda CR-V model was released in the model year 1995 as 1996 vehicle. It had the wheel base of 103.0 inches, length of 178 inches, width of 69 inches and height of 65.9 inches.
The standard engine to the 1996 model include a 2.0 liter I-4 version that delivers 126 hp of power and 133 lb ft of torque and it comes mated to either 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission. The fuel tank in the engine has capacity to fill up to 15 US gallons. The Honda CR-V relates to Honda HR-V, Honda Civic and Honda Integra. For 1996, offered in single trim model, LX.

Third Generation (2007-Present)

The Honda CR-V released in 2007 is also called as Honda CR-V EX in United States. The powertrain options remain same, but generate more power. Available transmissions to the engines include 5-speed automatic and 6-speed manual.
The exterior dimensions of Honda CR-V have been enhanced. Now, it has the wheelbase of 103 inches, 177.9 inches length, 72 inches width and 66 inches height. The current generation Honda CR-V is related to Acura RDX, Honda Element and Honda Civic SUVs.

With a powerful I-4 engine equipped, this SUV can achieve fuel economy of 20 miles per gallon in the city premises and 24 miles per gallon on the highway roads.

BMW X6 ------------ WHAT A CAR

X6 is another addition to BMW’s X-cars lineup, (BMW calls them SAVs – Sports Activity Vehicle) but is a crossover of a coupe and an SUV and they call this an SAC – Sports activity Coupe.

Right now X6’s design is subject to a lot of controversy like all the Bimmers designed by Chris Bangle. People complaining about the X6 are more than the ones who like it and I’m among the minority. X6 has been executed beautifully inheriting a lot of design features from the X5 but in the looks department way better than the other X-cars (especially the X3 IMO which is uglier than the ugliest of the lot).
With the roof’s highest point directly above the driver, X6 seems a lot more driver-centric than the other X-cars. People looking for practicality must look elsewhere coz this one’s for the driving enthusiasts who enjoy the sportiness and dynamics of a coupe but can not take it everywhere and for those who like the riding height of SUVs but are less confident in pushing them.
One look at the photos and its sportiness is obvious but what adds class is the chrome finishes all around it – details like aluminium boards running under the doors, chrome lining around the greenhouse, titanium coloured grille, chrome tipped exhaust pipes etc. The most distinctive feature of this crossover is the beautifully executed sloping coupe-like roof and the rising shoulder line.
The production version wont stray much from this concept and X6 is expected to be launched by the end of 2008 at the earliest and will be priced about 20% more than the X5. About the engines, there is a possibility of a V10 petrol in addition to a twin-turbo 420bhp V8 and the two straight sixes from the X5.

ITS BEETLE

For this year, the New Beetle got minor plastic surgery outside, and a whole-heart transplant inside. Just like VW did with the original, the New Beetle survives by gaining more power and cosmetic tweaks to keep it abreast of the passing wave of time.

Outside, the alterations are subtle. There’s a new grille element below the bumper area, with three distinct air inlets that lend a more aggressive look to the overall styling. Lighting elements and fender flares were reworked as well, but still, anyone but a hard-core Beetle fan would be hard-pressed to tell the difference based solely on a simple visual examination.
Under that cute, rounded hood-not where a Bug’s motor should reside, any purist would tell you (’til your ears fall off)-the news is a lot more newsworthy. The naturally aspirated engine choices have been cut to one, eliminating the old 180-horse turbo-four. At least the old 2.0-liter four, at 115hp described fittingly by the word anemic-has been supplanted by a much more sizeable 2.5-liter inline five. This is the same motor that powers the new base-model Jetta, and here it gives a much better account of itself. (VW would also like to point out that parts of this motor-the cylinder head, for instance-are adapted from half of the Lamborghini Gallardo’s V10…but Lamborghini themselves would like you to forget that entirely.) Although the Jetta’s somewhat flatulent exhaust note is retained-perhaps a symptom of the irregular cylinder configuration-150 horsepower in this application is a good number. The Beetle feels torquey and strong now; it’ll certainly keep up with traffic in this configuration
And if that isn’t enough for you, the fuel-sipping diesel model, with a turbocharged 1.9-liter oil-burner, is available; boasting a full 100 horsepower-adequate in mild-mannered driving but it matches nobody’s definition of sporty. Of course, this is perfect for those who might miss the old, familiar, singularly Beetle feeling we like to call “underpowered.” Still, fuel economy is in the 37/44 range with this option, and like the rest of the new-generation diesels from VW, Mercedes and so on, there’s little in the way of noise or pollution penalty. The Beetle GT model is discontinued entirely-but there’s still a ragtop on the lot, for those who prefer cute to scoot.
As for the 2.5 we lived with for a week, we timed a 0-60 m.p.h. run at a couple ticks under 9 seconds, which we list here in spite of our opinion that the Beetle doesn’t feel too badly overmatched by its deceptive/unexpected) three-thousand-pound curb weight. We do heartily advise against ponying up for the six-speed automatic tranny in this car, though-stick with the manual if you enjoy being able to get out of your own way. We averaged 26 miles per gallon in mixed driving.
Handling is another story. The New Beetle is somewhat top-heavy for a compact, obviously-the center-of-gravity deficiency is palpable is spirited motoring. There’s more grip than we ever needed, though, and steering response, aided by the optional, $400 225/45 rubber on 17″ rims (versus 202/55R16s), is passably fair for a front-driver. Torque-steer can be problematic here, as we learned-caution is advisable, especially when accelerating out of a turn with a curb on your left. In all, the New Beetle 2.5 isn’t a pocket-rocket, no matter how sporty it may look; treat it like its cute-car appearance suggests you should and you’ll never have a problem.
This VW’s interior is as unique as the exterior. Carried over are the body-colored upper door panels-not advisable for arm-resting-as well as a small flower (“bud”) vase. (Note that the official VW owner’s manual advises against driving your Beetle with anything in it, buds or otherwise.) The seats are diminutive but comfy, and rear-seat room is mainly compromised by that curving roof shape. Switchgear is modern yet ruggedly timeless; we haven’t seen it’s like in other VW models. Even the audio system has a hint of throwback to it; it’s that old single-DIN size we all remember from the last 20 years, with a neat blue glow, text and mp3 capabilities, and a decent amount of power.
Out back, where purists would expect to find the engine, is a surprisingly commodious trunk area. Offering about three cubic feet, the crescent shape of the storage compartment does impinge upon its utility somewhat, but it’s still more than you’d expect if you flip the seats down to increase the cargo area.
It takes a very special kind of person to buy and drive a New Beetle. Obviously, though, there are enough of you out there for VW to keep building them-eight years, now-and it would seem they must’ve done something right. With this new refreshening, however, the venerable Bug need not rely upon its styling for its appeal quite so much; it’s notably more capable with the new drivetrain. At $16-25,000, if nothing else, the 2006 New Beetle s remarkably affordable for an automotive fashion statement-and less penalizing for those who choose their cars based on fashion in the first place.

The Superamerica is the first production car to adopt an innovative rotating roof which transforms it from a coupé to a convertible in just a few seconds.
Derived from the 575M Maranello, the Superamerica is available with either an F1-style or manual gearbox, and is fitted with the latest development of the classic V12 engine which produces 532 bhp.
Thanks to the electrically operated rotating roof, which incorporates electrochromic technology, the Superamerica is the world's fastest convertible berlinetta with a top speed of 199 mph.
The exclusive and unmistakably Pininfarina-designed Superamerica is produced in a limited series, just like the cars from the 1950s and '60s it's named after.
The Ferrari Superamerica's most important feature is the Fioravanti-patented rotating roof. Called the Revocromico™ roof to highlight its unique rearward rotating movement and electrochromic glass technology, the supporting structure is in carbon-fibre. Once the roof catch has been released, the Superamerica converts from a coupé to a drop top in less than 10 seconds. When opened, the roof folds back and rests flush with the boot lid, while the rear window doubles as a highly effective wind deflector.
Another advantage this solution offers is that, even with the top down, the boot capacity is unaffected. The boot can also be opened regardless of whether the top is up or down. For owners who plan to use the car with the top down for extended periods, a special all-weather tonneau cover is available which can easily be fitted. The use of electrochromic glass for the Superamerica's rotating roof is a first in the automotive industry. The roof is around one square metre in size and the tint of the glass can be modified using a 5-position switch located on the central tunnel.
In fact, the electrochromic glass, manufactured in collaboration with Saint Gobain, contains special electrochemical cells which give a range of five different tint levels. At the very lightest setting, the amount of light coming into the cockpit is the same as a conventional glass sunroof, while at the very darkest setting only 1% of solar rays filter through. It takes just under 60 seconds for the glass to go from the darkest to the lightest setting. When the engine is turned off, however, the glass automatically reverts to its darkest setting to protect the cockpit
